What is the process of interior design?

Interior design is a process that begins with conception and ends when you have a finished space where your visions become reality.

  1. Define Your Brief

It is crucial to first define your goals, the scope of work and the feel and function you wish to achieve.

The interior designer will discuss your inspiration, plans, ideas, opinions, and the feasibility of your project. The interior designer will look at different approaches to help you achieve your project.

2. Schematic Design

Interior designers will then return to their studio to research and create the concept. This includes images, sketches, and finishes. The master plan is created to create a flow between the rooms, with enough intelligent storage. It’s all inspired by your daily routine.

3. Design Development

After you approve the concept, detailed plans for your space. These include elevations of walls and joinery in 3D. You can then visualise the space in detail. The interior designer will then help you select the lighting, fixtures and finishes.

4. Construction Documentation

The drawings are sent out to bidders and the negotiations with builders begin. Interior designers will be your agents and work to ensure that your project is completed within budget.

6. Construction Admin

The interior designer takes on the role of project manager once the construction begins. The interior designer will be responsible for ensuring that the project is completed on time, within budget and according to the original brief.
