Not Factoring in How You Use Your Kitchen

The way that you use your kitchen needs to be at the heart of style decisions. Are you an avid cook? Do you like to socialise in it? Is your kitchen a busy family space with different uses? Know this starting point and design it with care according to your lifestyle and needs.

Chasing Trends

It’s too easy to chase trends, and they don’t benefit your home in the long run, as everything looks unconsidered and quickly dated. Instead, work out what kind of feel you like in your kitchen – farmhouse, French, vintage, modern, minimalist or dopamine-drenched, for example, and create a mood board with this feel in mind. It will help to make everything fit together coherently.

Not Enough Storage

Storage is the cornerstone of a successful kitchen, so invest in great cabinets, regular decluttering and smart storage options. You don’t need to redo your entire kitchen either: you can just upgrade your space with made to measure kitchen doors that get the most from your existing space. Poor Lighting

Get the lighting wrong and your kitchen will feel dark and dingy or harsh and uninviting. Great lighting is layered, with task-based lighting, ambient lighting and focal lighting all designed to achieve different goals.

Choosing Form over Function

It’s so tempting to choose a kitchen that wows you visually in a showroom even if it has no real application for your daily life. That white high-gloss kitchen looks fab in a magazine but won’t work with small kids and sticky hands. And the cute French rustic kitchen might look a little odd in your ’60s bungalow.

Focus on getting these key areas right and you’ll have a fantastic kitchen that you love and that becomes a real heart of your home for years to come.
