Factors to Keep in Mind When You are Dreaming of a Winter Wedding

So a winter wedding can be truly magical – with cosy venues, candlelight and rich colours plus much less stress than typical summer peak dates. However, those shorter days and cooler temperatures mean you will need to put a tad more thought into the comfort and logistics. This is what to consider when organising winter weddings:

1) Daylight and timing

This impacts everything from your ceremony time to how great your photos will turn up.

Consider:

An earlier ceremony so you’re not darting around in the dark

Leaving room for some couple pictures before the setting of the sun.

Plan B – Indoor group photos

Do not hesitate to consult your photographer in advance: they will be able help you set up a timeline that fits with the light.

2) Keep your guests warm (without turning up the heat too high and overheating)

You want cosy, not sweaty. If you have a venue, know how the heat actually functions and if there are cold spots (like next to doors or drafty entrances in older buildings). ·

Guest-friendly touches include:

A coat and umbrella cloakroom

Outdoor moments blankets (sparklers, photos)

Mulled apple juice or hot chocolate on arrival

3) Weather backups and travel

Weather: Ice, rain or even snow can have an impact on road conditions and parking.

Plan for:

Proper illumination and wayfinding for trails /carparks

Grit/salt on walkways if needed

Flexibility for arrival times

Contact details for local taxis or recommended lodging close-by.

Ask travelling suppliers what their contingency plans are for the winter.

4) Footwear and floors

When wet shoes meet a smooth floor, you have a recipe for slipping. If the venue floor has stone, polished wood or tiles use additional mats at doorways and have clear wipe your feet points.

Be practical for you and your bridal party. Having a second pair of shoes is great, this way if there are outdoor photos involved those beautiful heels will be kept in perfect condition.

5) Seasonal styling

When things turn to the chillier side, style can impact winter florals beautifully with a lot less work than summer.

Popular winter-friendly choices include:

Candles and warm lighting (fairy lights, lanterns)

Dark colours (burgundy, forest green, navy)

Seasonal foliage (evergreen, eucalyptus, berries)

Check out the candle rules at your venue.

6) Food and drink which serve well

Winter guests love comfort. Toasted nibbles, spirit warming mains and the appropriate late-night snack to match.

Don’t forget a cold-weather welcome drink (or ceremonial first non-alcoholic one).

The winter wedding is all about the ambience. A wedding that works with daylight and warmth as well as travel, to bring you a cosy romantic celebration which resembles the winter festivity of your dreams without the stress.
