What is a WAV?

Read Time:1 Minute, 14 Second

Wheelchair accessible vehicles are vehicles with modifications that enable you to drive or travel in the vehicle while still seated in a wheelchair. Some people use WAVs to transport their scooter or wheelchair, while they sit in the passenger seat. You can choose from a wide range of WAVs, from small cars up to large MPVs that can accommodate your entire family.

Features of WAV include:

  • Access ramps
  • Special wheelchair restraints
  • Seat belts for wheelchair occupants
  • Lower floor (or in some cases a raised ceiling) to facilitate entry and access, and to provide extra headroom. For more information on WAV Vehicles, visit a site like https://clarkemobility

Wheelchair Passengers

WAVs can be converted to accommodate wheelchair users. You will usually be seated at the back of the vehicle and have access to it from the rear.

Wheelchair drivers

Some WAVs have been specially modified to enable you to drive while still in your wheelchair. Special driver controls can be fitted to standard cars so you can drive once you have transferred into a driver’s seat.

Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles: The Range of Vehicles Available

WAVs are affordable, popular, and come in a variety of sizes. You may want to consider an MPV if you need extra seats for passengers and luggage to accommodate your entire family. Some WAV MPVs and minibuses can accommodate up to two wheelchair users.

Finding the WAV that best suits your needs is the key to finding the right vehicle.
