Flickering Screens

The display flicker is usually because of loose or damaged cables, outdated graphic drivers and hardware problems. The first step you should try is updating your drivers and checking for power options. If the issue persists, then it may be an indication of a dying backlight or loose connection inside your computer – typically not for DIY.

Cracked Screens

A laptop screen is a fragile thing that can crack easily if even accidentally dropped (or rested on). Even the smallest crack can spread, which impairs visibility and touch functionality too if you have a touchscreen. Sadly, broken glass is not a DIY fix. You have to replace the screen or else it will get worse over time. Always treat your computer with dignity and use a protective covering to guard against damage. Dead Pixels

Dead pixels are tiny spots on your screen that stay unchanging and usually appear as black, white or coloured dots. They result from defects in manufacturing or physical damage. You can sometimes resurrect a stuck pixel by gently applying pressure or using certain display refreshing software, but if your device has truly dead pixels the manufacturer will usually not repair it. Check if screen replacement is covered under warranty (if your laptop comes under warranty).

Prevention and Care

If your screen isn’t performing as it should, you can probably coax it along for a good while yet with some regular maintenance, gentle handling and fixing the little things as they arise. However, when in doubt, have a pro check it out!
