Oak and maple are both common hardwoods, popular for flooring and furniture. Ash is the second most popular hardwood for tool handles. It is also used to make kitchen cabinets and flooring. Birch is a common hardwood that’s a great choice for both homes and businesses. It can grow up to 85 feet high and produces durable, high-quality timber. The tree can be cut down as a whole or in multiple pieces.

There are several varieties of pine. The lower-grade pine you buy in home improvement stores is prone to cupping and warping. The moisture content of cheaper pine is too high. This causes it to buckle when drying. If you are on a budget, pine makes a great choice for furniture.

Redwood is an extremely high-quality, slow-growing timber species. It can take more than 100-years to reach maturity. However, it is widely used in flooring, window panels and other large products. Teak is also a fire-resistant hardwood that’s easy to work with. It is highly valued for furniture and large projects even though it costs more than redwood.
