Update from the Government on the Supply Chain Initiative
The Builders Merchants Federation, BMF, has been provided with informal guidance by the Competition and Markets Authority CMA regarding a potential environmental sustainability agreement.
What Does the Guidance Include?
The Builders Merchants Federation has developed a proposal which recommends the industry utilises a single supply chain assurance services provider in order to successfully deliver a standardised environmental, social and governance platform.
As part of this proposal, the BMF would utilise Veriso to initially deliver the preferred platform with a view to hold a competitive process at regular intervals to determine which future providers will be used.
The overall objective here is to make it simpler for merchants to assess the overall impact their supply chains are having by providing environmental, social and governance information consistently. Merchants will therefore find it easier to improve both their policies and processes.
Next Steps
Working together, Verisio and the BMF will establish a standard questionnaire which will allow both non-members and members to ensure that the service fully meets their needs. The BMF proactively approached the CMA for support in determining whether there were any risks relating to competition law before its implementation.
