HTML5 banner ad sizes and formats used for online display advertising to save time when briefing a designer for online banner ads.

Leaderboard: 728×90

Leaderboards are typically placed at the top of a page, and are widely recognised. They are great for carrying brand messages as they are wide enough to include a logo, short headline and a call to action all side by side.

Medium Rectangle: 300×250

The Medium Rectangle is by far the most requested ad size. It is a very visible ad format as it is typically placed in the article sidebar or in the actual article content. We would recommend starting with a 300×250 creation.

Wide Skyscraper: 160×600

The tall, narrow skyscraper is usually placed down the side of a page and is very visible as a user scrolls down a page. Due to its tall narrow nature it is often used for animated sequences as there is enough height to create interest.

Mobile Banner: 320×50

The mobile banner is a long thin strip of advertising that is displayed on top of or at the bottom of a mobile page. Due to the small screen size the messaging is restricted to a single short line followed by a single clear button.

Before you brief the artwork to be created, it is always a good idea to first refer to the standard display ad size guidelines to confirm the size and file weight for display. HTML 5 Ads is covered in more detail at //thebannermen.com/banners/animated-ads/html5.

Getting the sizes right from the start will save you time in the long run as fewer revisions will be needed and you will get to sign off on the artwork quicker.
